Introduction
Malaysia has an excellent reputation worldwide for encouraging Foreign Direct Investment (FDI), and this is reflected in the fact that there are substantial investments in Malaysia from the major trading nations of the world. It is a main part of MICCI's work to facilitate such trade into and out of Malaysia and to encourage investment and reinvestment in Malaysia by both domestic and international investors.
History of MICCI
MICCI traces its origin to the formation in 1837 of its senior ancestor, The Penang Chamber of Commerce and Agriculture. This was the period when, as a result of the declining influence of the East India Company, a number of Chambers of Commerce in the Far East came into being.
Following amalgamation with the Perak and Selangor Chambers early in the 20th century, the enlarged Chamber was restructured in 1974 and renamed the Malaysian International Chamber of Commerce and Industry, or MICCI.
MICCI represents about 1000 corporate members from over 33 countries worldwide (including Malaysia). MICCI's head office is situated in Kuala Lumpur and branch offices are maintained covering Penang & North, Perak, the East Coast, Malacca/Negri Sembilan, Johor, and Sabah. In Sarawak, MICCI has a special relationship with the Sarawak Chamber of Commerce & Industry.
